The 1st weekend of each month at Sweet Basil's Cafe & The Wine Bar

Well it seems the time has come to bring back a little Louisiana cooking to Clatsop County directly from Cannon Beach. Cajun/Creole trained Chef John Sowa chef/owner of Sweet Basil’s Café and The Wine Bar at Sweet Basil’s is offering a Cajun weekend the first weekend of each month starting November 4th, 2011.

In 2007 chef John sold Lil’ Bayou restaurant in Seaside to pursue a more heath conscious menu that is offered for lunch at Sweet Basil’s plus a Tapas, Small Plate and Entrée menu in the evenings.  With the closing of Lil’ Bayou he’s been getting more and more requests to bring back some Cajun fare. Truthfully he admits he’s really missed the style of cooking that convinced him to become a chef. “There is such a history to Louisiana food and recipes that date back to the 17th Century with restaurants that have served signature dishes for over 200 years,” John says.  So, on the first weekend of each month Sweet Basil’s Café and The Wine Bar will offer a full Cajun feast accompanied by the live music of talented north coast musicians.

From appetizers to desserts you will get to enjoy full Cajun authenticity. Chef John has ordered is some key ingredients from Louisiana that can’t be found in the Pacific Northwest but is determined to use local products and sources wherever possible. There will be Red Beans and Rice with Andouille Sausage of course, Jambalayas, Gumbos, Crawfish Etouffee and Crawfish Pie to name a few. Bananas Foster and Bourbon Pie are a couple of desserts that will be offered as well. For those foodies and people who just enjoy comfort foods - mark your calendar and be prepared for a taste of NOLA in Cannon Beach.  Follow us on Facebook for discounts and more special events.
